The HTC Radar is the latest Smartphone to run Windows 7.5 Mango operating system. This device from HTC is smaller, smarter and less exaggerated version of its predecessor Titan. The HTC Radar is good looking- tough far from flashy and well built Smartphone running 1GHz powered package with a fairly palatable price tag hanging off that aluminum unibody. Sure it may not be the up grader’s dream but it’ll probably tick plenty of boxes for those who are only giving platform a go.

Design

Little brother of HTC Titan and the second handset from HTC to run Windows 7.5 Mango as their Operating System, the HTC Radar is a solid little handset; it’s crafted with a single piece of metal weighing 137g in your hand. HTC made it sleek and trendy by giving phone 120.5*61.5*10.9 mm dimensions. There are power and headphone jack up top, micro USB slot on the left and volume rocker and camera button on the right.

Display

The phone is having display resolution of 480*800 pixels with the 3.8 inches S-LCD capacitive touch screen of 16M colors. The HTC Radar screen is protected with Gorilla Glass technology and accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate features.

Camera

The Radar’s 5 mega pixel camera has a back illuminated sensor and f/2.2 lens which yields impressive results in low light conditions. Videos is captured at 720p, while colors are strong it has a compressed look and doesn’t measure to the impressive camera. On the whole imaging is not the Radar’s strong point but when compared to some of its contemporaries such as the HTC Desire S, it’s perfectly adequate. Its autofocus camera with LED flash is capable of capturing 2560*1920 pixels good quality photos and also having front VGA camera for video calling.

Hardware & Software

HTC Radar has a 1GHz Scorpion processor runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS with 512 MB of RAM. It is powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset, which has an Andreno 205 processor at its core. There’s 8GB of internal storage, of which you only see 6GB, and no support for microSD card for memory expansion. The chipset and processor led to smooth performance as on all Windows Phone 7 handsets. Scrolling menus and typing is as smooth as it is on the iPhone4 and multitasking is handled perfectly by the Qualcomm chipset.

Sharing & Internet

Windows Phone 7.5 Mango brings a new browser IE-9 mobile. This uses the same JavaScript Engine as Microsoft’s desktop variant, which means speedy browsing and one of the most accomplished browsing experience you are likely to find on mobile. Using Wi-Fi, 3G HSDPA 14.4 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps connections its IE 9 mobile browser takes very small time to load web pages.

Microsoft Office Mobile is another key aspect of Windows Phone that lets you save documents to SkyDrive, Office 365, SharePoint and the phone’s memory, so you’re well served for local and cloud storage. It also lets you compose, edit and create new documents, which you can sync with SkyDrive or Office 365.

Conclusion

The HTC Radar has good camera, and in the shape of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, an excellent operating system. The phone’s main drawbacks are the lack of flash and the minimal storage space, but it’s still a seriously accomplished midrange Smartphone. HTC Radar is available in three different shades of Grey, Silver and White with lots of contract deals.

The second Facebook phone from HTC with HTC Salsa, is the HTC ChaCha. Like its strange name HTC ChaCha is castanet clicking, hand clapping Smartphone with a beauty mark in the form of dedicated facebook button. It also offers power of Android 2.3 Gingerbread and an excellent QWERTY keyboard. ChaCha is one of the new generation facebook focused phones. Mobile manufacturers are quickly catching the facts that today social networking is a big business and people are always ready to welcome social networking enables phones. Inspite of having one facebook phone, HTC Salsa Company again comes up with this newly designed QWERTY keypad phone just after the success of the previous one. So if you are social networking fanatic you should check this Android phone to feel new experience chatting and sharing with your friends on web.

Design

HTC knows well how to make sleek and beautiful phones and company has also done full justice to this phone by crafting this phone lovely. The phone is constructed with the combination of metals and plastic giving phone an attractive design. In terms of size it is slimmer than the BlackBerry Bold at 10.7mm; marginally larger than BlackBerry giving wider spaced keyboard offering up individual keys. Across the bottom of the display you got calling buttons that’s mean you don’t have to touch the screen for answering and ending the calls. Beneath the QWERTY keyboard on the extreme right there is a facebook button to access your account directly on your Smartphone. It also got camera button along with special cursor buttons on the keyboard. Phone is having dimensions of 114.4*64.4*10.7mm and weighs only 120gm.

Display

Sadly fitting on those lovely tactile buttons HTC has to compromise with the screen of the phone. Although resolution of 480*320 gives sharp images but its 2.6 inches screen down the size of its display. ChaCha has Gorilla Glass technology with HTC Sense 2.1 User Interface. There is a plus point of having landscape display it helps ChaCha’s dainty 1250mAh battery last for quite a while.

Camera

There are both front and rear cameras, the back offering 5 mega pixel still and up to 720*480 video capture and the front VGA camera to make video callings. The primary one can click photos of 2592*1944 pixels with the help of LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging and face detection features.

Performance

In general term everything on HTC ChaCha runs very nicely. Internally it packs with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and runs with the help of Qualcomm MSM7227 processor cloaked at 800 MHz. You get 512MB RAM and ROM and these specs really sets the phone out as a mid range handset. There is a microSD card slot at the back for memory expansion. In terms of battery life I found that its sibling, the HTC Salsa, was better. Being the facebook devoted phone it give you new feel of chatting, updating and sharing on the social media sites. It also supports 3G to experience high speed mobile downloading and browsing.

Conclusion

The HTC ChaCha’s screen takes some getting used to, but the excellent QWERTY keyboard and Facebook button mean it’s a very appealing device. For those looking to venture into something a little different their BlackBerry then it has a lot of offer. However, the touch screen experience offered by it’s sister handset the HTC Salsa is difficult to ignore, resulting in a richer experience with the benefit of a much better mobile internet experience.

1) Angry Birds 3D:

Well those lovable words will migrate to just about any platform that will have them which is indeed good for us. Most probably the next nesting area for the flightless bunch will be on 3D handsets maybe even the HTC Evo 3D.

If this happens to be the case then it could just be possible to see you flying towards your foes in first person mode. The other thing can be that backgrounds appear to stand out a bit which seems more likely.

Angry Birds 3D may or may not include a unique 3D gameplay aspect but this application will be great for HTC Evo 3D.

2) HTC Sense Weather App:

Going through weather forecasts must be there with watching paint dry. But once the HTC’s sense looks and a smattering of 3D is applied the result is anything but dull.

With new animations you apparently feel that you are present there, braving the harsh UK elements, without losing half of your body weight in sweat as is the case at the moment. It is a pretty cool feature to have in your phone.

3) Google Maps 3D:

Hey this app may not be in works just yet, but imagine it for a second. A swipe of your finger would let you rotate around a 3D view of your local town, bringing it to life in scarily real fashion. Google home stalking will have never been so good.

4) 3D camera:

It will be of no use having 3D technology without the some sort of 3D camera to make your drunken night out images appear to have more depth. Well a dedicated 3D camera app for the Evo 3D would be awesome if a little pointless.

The Sensation weighs 148 g which puts it in middle weight segment. It offers Gorilla glass display, chrome accents; aluminium chassis and texture coated battery cover which makes phone solid and good for handling. Texture coating is on the top and bottom portions of battery cover. Well the over all design and appearance of phone is high and it is one of the best smartphones from HTC.

Display:

The 4.3 inches Super LCD display offers richer looking colors, better contrast as compared to the 4.2 inches display of Xperia Arc. Both the displays are good and it’s hard to differentiate which one is better. The HTC Sensation appears better when set at the same brightness level as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.

Camera:

The photos clicked by Xperia Arc are quite bright but colors are not as life like offering less detail and contrast compared to photos taken by HTC Sensation. The video captured by Sensation at 1080p is far superior compared to video shot by Arc at 720 p.

User Interface:

Undoubtedly the HTC Sense 3.0 is the best manufacturers UI available nowadays. It consists of four short cuts on the lock screen, Swype built in to the messaging app and there is new 3D animation when moving between the panels. The HTC Sense 3.0 UI is truly a one that comprises of widgets and options that enables users to customize their phone to great extent.

Processing Power/Speed:

The HTC Sensation with more RAM and dual core processor is ahead compared to Arc. It loads YouTube videos quicker however Arc is little behind the Sensation. Considering the difference in RAM and processor size the Arc competes quite well with 768 MB RAM and 1.2 GHz dual core Processor of Sensation.

Tiny Temper:

Well the HTC Gratia White may not carry the same lofty perch as its stable mate Desire HD but this not evident from its build quality. In typical HTC fashion the HTC Gratia White feels robust and solid. Despite its small dimensions it weighs reasonably heavy with weight of 115 g. This is nothing compared to bulky phones like Samsung Omnia 7. The plastic battery cover engulfs the phone and also its side, top and bottom. Phone also features touch sensitive trackpad which enables you to scroll home screens and appropriately select the portion of text while composing an email or text message.

Turn of the screw:

The only unappealing part of HTC Gratia White is the screws which appear at the back of phone. At first glance it seems as if they are holding the battery cover but with the back off it is evident that they are holding the phone’s internal shell.

The 3.2 inch screen of phone looks weedy when placed alongside of vast screens of Sony Ericsson Arc or Motorola Milestone. The small display has enabled HTC to make this phone pocket sized and it fits smoothly in the palm of hand too.

A whole lot of sense:

Residing over the core Android operating system is the mesmerizing HTC user interface. Undoubtedly its one of the better manufacturer skin available today. Although it misses some key elements like integration with HTC’s cloud based sense.com service. Still it retains the vital bits of functionality and the popular polished design.

There are seven home screens to deal with and their functionality can be streamlined by adopting the preset screen option.
