Tuesday July 27, 2010

Sales of Android phones in the UK has raised its 350 per cent since the beginning of 2010 in spite of the contract market growing by less than 1 per cent in the same period, according to GfK Retail and Technology in the UK.

The retail spectator released figures showing Android's share in the UK mobile contract market which has grew from 3 per cent in the first quarter this year to reach 13.2 per cent in the second quarter.

Phones with a superior Operating System (OS) continued to produce the contract market, reaching 66.7 per cent in the second quarter of this year compared to 55 per cent in the first quarter.

"The figures recommend an increasing number of consumers are now asking for Android handsets by name," commented GfK analyst Megan Baldock. "Operating Systems are no longer simply a by-product but a key selling point in their own right."

Growth has been continuous since the beginning of the year and is expected to rise constantly throughout 2010. The latest figures show that mobile phones with advanced operating systems represent 73.5 per cent of the UK contract market.
